AsasarA Cargobikes - Designing for Winter

Register of Initiatives in Pedal Powered Logistics - RIPPL #5

The RIPPL blog continues at the website RIPPL.BIKE

Mikkel Bentsen is an industrial designer living in Nuuk, Greenland. He is developing a lightweight aluminium e-cargo bike which is designed to cope with the extremes of temperature and terrain found in the country, whilst still being able to carry a load of 150kg.

A unique aspect of Mikkel's design allows the bike to be adapted for use in heavy snow: an optional extra frame assembly with two jockey wheels allows the rear wheel to convert to a caterpillar track whilst a ski is placed underneath the front wheel. Mikkel hopes to develop prototypes of the design in 2017 and begin production in 2018.
